TIPS TO HAVE A FAT-FREE FESTIVAL

Here are a few do's and dont's that will help you to maintain your weight during this festive season

Every festive season is synonymous to sweets and fried food. A celebration brings with it happiness, laughter, joy and for your waistline — a lot of ghee! Many people believe that it is impossible to maintain your weight during the festivals, especially from August to December, as it is the season of festivals in India.

We work out regularly and eat healthy for the first six months to look our best for the next six months. But more often, we gain that weight again. We overeat or eat unhealthy food as a result of which the weighing scale surprises us every time we stand on it. But there is a way to maintain your weight even during this time of celebration.

"If you think that avoiding calories is impossible during the festival, then you are wrong. As the festive season kicks in, it is important to remember that while you enjoy every moment of the celebration, it is also important to keep a check on your diet. Running away from food will not help you lose weight," says Ramraj Yogi, a fitness expert.

DOS' AND DON'TS
Moderation is the key to losing or maintaining weight. If you eat everything moderately, you will not only satisfy your craving but will also satisfy yourself.

Water is the most important nutrient in your body. It is essential for various reasons. Make sure you have enough water 30 minutes before a heavy meal.

This will make you partially full as a result of which, you will binge less.

Have plenty of fruits, nuts and dry fruits wherever possible. Nuts and dry fruits also have calories. But having a pista is way better than having Pasta.

If you are going to a place where you will be served starters, soups, salads and a main course, start your meal with a soup or salad instead of a starter. Once you are done with your soup and salad, you can eat anything you like because your tummy will hardly have any place for anything else.

For vegetarians, avoid potatoes completely. Stick to spinach, paneer or any other vegetable that is made with less oil.

For non vegetarians, roasted or grilled chicken or fish is the best option. Avoid mutton, prawns, lobsters or any other sea food.

Avoid sweets and fried food completely. Two small gulab jamuns have about 280 calories and one big samosa has 210 calories. Instead opt for a light snack like an idli, poha, upma, sada dosa without oil, butter and ghee. While choosing your rotis, chappati or tandoori roti is the safest option. Naan, roomali roti, kulcha, parathas are unhealthy as they are soaked in oil, butter, or ghee. Caffeine is a complete NO. It gives you an adrenaline rush the moment you consume it, but leaves you feeling dehydrated eventually. Instead of normal tea, have green or herbal tea. Aerated sodas are the unhealthiest and should be completely avoided. Diet drinks are the most fattening. Stick to water or fresh fruit juices or fruits.

TIP FOR A HEALTHY LIFE
Soak any one of the ingredients Holy basil (tulsi), Mint Leaves (pudina), Fenugreek Seeds (methi), Cinnamon (dalchinni), Black pepper (kali mirch), Bay Leaf (tej patta) in water overnight. The next morning, throw the ingredient and drink the water.

Always remember to change your ingredient in every 10 days.

Tips of Escalator etiquette : The dos and don'ts

Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York, has said he always walks on escalators. Good exercise, yes, but some cities discourage it. And there's one thing obstructing walkers - people who stand. There are walkers and there are standers, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg is a walker. In announcing a plan to make New York's buildings more stair-friendly, the mayor said he always walks on escalators. Most escalator walking happens at underground stations - people don't tend to be in such a hurry in a shopping center, for instance. But Bloomberg is still in a minority of escalator users around the world. In London, about 25% of people on the Tube walk on the escalators and in Shanghai only about 3%, according to a study. And in some countries, walking on escalators is discouraged. On the Toronto subway system, signs that encouraged people to walk on the left were removed at the recommendation of safety experts. A ban was also considered for Tokyo's transport system but n...
