Very important aspect of KYC and dangers

In ordinary course we keep issuing and submitting our KYC documents (identity and residential proofs such as PAN card, electricity bill etc.) to various people. For housing or car or other loans, bank accounts, or even for buying new sim card we submit these documents.

At almost all these places they ask for self certification on these documents. We immediately sign those documents and hand over them without any doubt or suspicion. Is it correct?

What is Danger?
Just imagine your self certified copies are freely available in the hands of such persons & those documents can be used by him for EVERYTHING! Its really serious and its been seen that in most of the terrorist activities, KYC documents are sourced from the SIM card sellers. They take sim cards with your documents.

These sim cards may fall in the hands of gangsters. They may issue threat for extortion or use sim card for a murder. Next? Police is on your doorstep.

These sim cards may go to the hands of a terrorist and can be used as a timer device. Boom. Next? NIA at your doorstep.

What to DO?
Please inculcate a habit of writting the purpose for which you are submitting the self certified KYC Documents so that those documents cannot be used again.

If someone force you to not write the purpose of issue of documents, refuge to give him/her and talk to there senior officials immediately.

Write a protest and warning letter or mail to the company or authority, if they insist for document without purpose, stating that misuse of this document will be there responsibility. If misused in any manner, they will be held responsible for the act of their person or employees.

Keep full record of person, who is taking documents from you. His mobile number should be taken and check it by dialing right there.

What documents given and number of sheets should me kept in the records.

Take a receipt of the delivered documents too.
